Fisher Scientific UK Limited, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, is a manufacturer of chemicals and a distributor of laboratory equipment and chemicals. Its activities include production (chemicals only), packaging, warehousing and distribution.
The Company accepts responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of its employees and others that may be affected by its activities.
The Health and Safety Management System (known as the Signpost document) seeks to identify, prioritise and control the risks associated with our activities.
Fisher Scientific will achieve this control by;
- Ensuring that its management and supervision promote and lead by example in safe behaviour;
- Identification, implementation and maintenance of risk control systems and workplace precautions which ensure plant, equipment and systems meet or exceed statutory health & safety requirements;
- The provision of competent assistance to determine risks to health and safety arising from the Company’s activities;
- Arrangements for ensuring safe use, handling, storage and transport of equipment, materials and hazardous chemicals;
- Providing information, instruction, and training necessary to achieve competence for its employees in respect of their legal obligations and the risks to their health and safety;
- Appointment of "Representatives of Employee Safety" for local areas, known as Safety Advisors, to represent the employees and consult with them on matters of Health and Safety;
- Communicate with staff giving information on the annual health and safety plan, performance indicators and progress, in order to promote employee involvement and develop the company safety culture;
- Carry out an annual review of the company’s performance to ensure that the controls and systems in place remain applicable to the business needs and are current with legal standards and guidance; and promote continual improvement within all areas of the business.
The Company will review this policy annually, through the site EHS Focus Group, to ensure it remains relevant to the business.
